Movement Seminar

Darci Anderson has been teaching, studying and practicing human movement for over 15 years. On December 4th she will be offering a full, 1 Day Seminar on the principles and concepts behind the word Movement.

This full day seminar is an excellent entry point into the world of Flux movement and will provide you with alternative perspectives on the body and movement - perspectives that you can then adopt and adapt in a way that makes sense and is meaningful for your students.

This seminar is an opportunity to provide an additional layer to your depth as a coach/instructor and to speak to a broader population of folks.

Flux Movement is an ever evolving practice and process that takes the body as a springboard into studying all aspects of the human animal. Its founder, Darci Anderson, is keen to understand and make sense of how history, culture and evolution all work together to shape and inform human movement. Through this understanding we can in turn make more informed and mindful decisions around the health and wellness of our bodies, families, communities and earth itself.

Flux Movement takes an interdisciplinary approach to the body and draws on vast fields of study such as: human kinetics, social and political thought, ecology, psychology, anthropology, cultural studies and physiology. She believes this interdisciplinary approach is necessary as the body cannot and does not exist in isolation.

How we feel, move, think and make meaning about our bodies, indeed, what we value and strive for in a body is largely shaped by historical forces. With a background in Social and Political Thought, Darci has always been interested in unpacking the common sense assumptions that are often taken for granted when it comes to the body and how we as humans have come to understand the body in relation to others and to the larger natural world.

MOVEMENT PRACTICES AND TOPICS WE WILL COVER:

WHY I STOPPED OFFERING ‘MOBILITY’ CLASSES AND MOVED TOWARDS THE PRACTICE OF INTEGRATION AND COLLABORATION

The body is more than the sum of its parts and unlike a machine it cannot be simply taken apart in isolated pieces and put back together again.

INTUITION: HOW TO ORGANIZE YOUR BODY IN REAL TIME AND SPACE

What happens when your body is off-axis? How do you develop kinetic potential in your body?

ELASTICITY AND BUOYANCY

There are two qualities that are often overlooked when it comes to the dominant health and wellness paradigm and are typically overshadowed by terms such as strength and conditioning. Find out why Flux Movement places elasticity and buoyancy as integral to athleticism, efficiency and longevity in the body.

THE BODY AS SITUATIONAL - BEYOND THE CONFINES OF 4 WALLS

Games keep you youthful

There are no absolutes so why do we strive for it in our exercise setting?

WHAT A SPINE CAN DO!

Yes, the spine is designed to sustain load. BUT… if we want to honour our body’s ancestral complexity and move as humans are designed to move, we need to understand and incorporate Rotation and Undulation in our physical practice.

A SOBERING REALITY

A simple fact: If we do not eat, we die.

A movement practice is about more than only the individual body, and the hard truth is that the food we eat has ecological and ethical consequences. This section of our seminar will make vital connections between food, ecology and how humans have come to define health and wellness.
